I was introduced to Catherine and Mike through their friend who was a member of a local business networking group that I was involved in. Their goal was to find someone who specialized in intimate wedding photography with a documentary approach and minimal posing. We hit it off shortly after meeting, and they booked me that very evening. The rest, as they say, is history.
The day started with a drive to the final location of the evening, Airship 37, so that I could park my car in the rear lot and head over to the bride’s house. I experienced a momentary anxiety attack while circling the lot in search of an available spot. The plan was for me to accompany her and her bridesmaids in the limo trip down to Enoch Turner Schoolhouse for the ceremony. After finding the last remaining spot, which was precariously close to the tailgate of a large box truck, I Hailo’d a cab and was on my way.
After the wedding ceremony, the wedding party and I hopped into the waiting SUVs and rode over to La Maquette for some light appetizers and drinks. The restaurant lends itself well to special event photography; the architecture and decor were a pleasure to behold. Our next stop was Craft Dogs, a gourmet hot dog joint that is now closed for business because it needs time to “work on its wieners”. It was quite surreal to behold the sight of a white bride, a tuxedoed groom, and their formally dressed wedding party inside a fluorescent, yellow-walled fast food restaurant. I loved it!
Our last destination for the evening was Airship 37, a venue I’m familiar with from an S&P corporate event I photographed there last year. The schedule was mostly occupied with lengthy speeches. A formal multi-course dinner was not on the menu, instead, Catherine and Mike opted for an extended cocktail party with many appetisers served throughout the evening by the wait staff. The night came to an end with a dance and hundreds of flower petals scattered about the poured concrete floor.
